Alanha is just like any other young girl. She loves music, movies, dancing, sports, and hanging out with her little brothers! But once she was diagnosed with cancer, her life changed forever. She had to undergo six brain surgeries and three spinal cord surgeries.
Through pageants, Alanha has learned a lot from her. When asked why she competes in pageants, Alanha replied, “Since the beginning of pageants, I’ve grown sooo much! The confidence, grace and poise it has taught me is priceless! I feel completely at home with my pageant family. The whole reason I began my journey in pageants can be summed up in a few short words…it’s all about the kids. My goal is to use my own journey and trials to show kids that it doesn’t matter what your circumstance is…YOU CAN SUCCEED!”
When Alanha and her family met with Make-A-Wish, she had no difficulty deciding what her wish was. She wanted to go to New York City and tour the Miss Universe office.
Last December, Make-A-Wish Mississippi granted Alanha’s wish to go to New York City and meet the Miss Universe office. It was truly an incredible experience! Alanha and her family kicked off their trip by going to the Miss Universe Office and meeting the contestants! They ended their day by going to the Gershwin Theatre to see the Tony Award winning Broadway musical, Wicked. The next morning, Alanha and her family went to the Radio City Music Hall to see it’s Christmas Spectacular featuring the world-famous Rockettes! The remainder of their trip included admission to the 86th floor observation deck at the Empire State building, a ferry ride to the Statute of Liberty, and tickets to the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum.
Alanha and her family had a wonderful time! They loved every aspect of the wish and said it was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. Not only did her wish provide her with a time that she will never forget, but it gave her a new spark for life!
