Kaylee is your typical teenage girl who enjoys slumber parties, going to the movies with friends and reading thriller or mystery books. She has a dog that she loves to cuddle with and can spend hours playing a good monopoly game.
When Kaylee was 13 her mom took her to her pediatrician for a cold. Because her blood pressure was severely high, they were sent to the emergency room. At the hospital they gave her water pills and sent her home. Due to her blood pressure worsening she was sent to a kidney specialist that diagnosed her with End Stage Renal disease.
For a year, Kaylee had to endure a port surgically inserted into her stomach so that each night she could hook up to her dialysis machine for what started out as 5 hours and later turned into up to 10 hours a night. Life as Kaylee had known before was changed dramatically. She could no longer spend the night away from home, stay up late or even eat the foods she loved the most.
“She always smiled through it all. She kept good grades and never complained,” said wish Mom-Sarah.
While dealing with the hard hand that she had been dealt, Kaylee’s mom reached out to Make-A-Wish. Her one true wish was easy to figure out because Kaylee loved going to a beautiful beach and she wanted to swim with Dolphins.
“Right from the start we were floored with the special attention that not only Kaylee received but the whole family as well.” -Sarah “Starting with the airport, Kaylee and her brother were allowed to sit in the cock-pit of the plane. Which it didn’t end there at all, she had mentioned that she loved to bake. The chef on the cruise ship invited Kaylee to tour the kitchen, meet the staff and taught her how to make a Strawberry Cake. This was a trip that none of us will ever forget. Thank you so much Make-A-Wish for granting Kaylee this wish and giving her such a great experience after everything she has battled. This trip has helped to erase some of the bad experiences she has had to endure!”
