Olivia is a typical out-going 7-year-old little girl, who has never met a stranger. She loves being outdoors, swimming, riding her bike and creating any type of art she can get her hands on. Through all the medical precautions and steps, she must endure on a daily basis, she has kept a smile on her face and a zest for experiencing life to its fullest every day!
“We were the average married couple, awaiting the arrival of our sweet girl. A very normal pregnancy with no red flags and a textbook delivery. Then at 1 week old, a phone call, changed our average normal life forever. The health department called to inform us that Olivia has cystic fibrosis. We were shocked. Cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that causes a thick mucus in many organs, changed our lives completely. We entered the world of medicine and respiratory treatments, which is a continuous balancing act to keep her healthy. With the Lord’s help, Olivia is now 7 and has grown to be a smart, courageous girl. Olivia is so smart, her wish was something not many children would ask for, a camper. She loves the outdoors and wants to travel, camp and fish. We look forward to taking our portable little home and all of our treatment regimen/medications with us on the road for good times, while making memories that will last a lifetime.” Olivia’s mom, Becky said.
On a Saturday last fall, Olivia went shopping with her mom while Make-A-Wish Mississippi volunteers and staff were busy setting up a surprise party for Olivia. One volunteer stated, “This is why I volunteer, I will never be able to take the image out of my head of the smile that appeared on Olivia’s face when she realized her wish was being granted.”
