What can make you stronger, when going through a hard time? What can make you smile? Well a wish, of course. Sydney was diagnosed with a brain tumor at 5 months old. Over the years, she has spent a lot of time in hospitals. During one of Sydney’s checkups at Saint Jude Hospital, she was approached by a social worker about Make-A-Wish.
According to Sydney, she knew instantly what her one true wish was. “For the last couple of years, we have watched The Voice and fallen in love with it. I really wanted to see the show Live and meet the judges. They have so much good talent each year and of course Blake Shelton is my favorite.”
Gerald, Sydney’s dad recalled, “It is standard in my home to watch The Voice together as a whole family. When we found out that Sydney’s wish was being granted, I thought I needed to start putting money aside for the trip, but Make-A-Wish took care of everything from the moment, we left our home until we returned. Everyone involved from the volunteers that came to our house, to the staff that work in the offices and all the way to Beverly Hills are super nice. They love what they do, they don’t do it because it is a job, they do it because they have a heart for it.”
For Sydney and her family, this trip was an experience they will never forget. They are still in awe of the power of a wish and constantly talk about the life-transforming impact of having an experience they never imagined possible and meeting the judges in person along with seeing how their favorite show is produced each week. When having such an impactful experience gives you the strength and courage to power through all the tough times they still may face.
