Demetrius was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, a rare kidney cancer that affects children, back in 2015. “He complained of a stomach ache for two weeks, so we took him to his pediatrician, recalled his mom Dianne. They gave us a suppository and sent us home, but it didn’t end there, his stomach wasn’t feeling any better and when we went back to the doctor they noticed his blood count was low. After some test, he was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor.” Demetrius had to go through a series of chemo and radiation to combat his illness.
Demetrius’s wish was granted in August. He had a perfect, worry free day, all he had to do was shop. He and his family were picked up by a limousine, early Saturday morning. His first stop was at Toys R Us, where he received the red-carpet treatment, followed by a special lunch at the restaurant of his choice “Red Lobster”. After lunch, Demetrius stopped by GameStop and loaded up on all his favorite games, followed by a special trip to Wal-Mart. Hours later, with the limousine filled with shopping bags, they head home. The memories of the day, the special treatment from the employees of every store, and the special care of the wish-granting volunteers will always be just a thought away.
